Après l’exposition au Mu.ZEE d’Ostende en 2021, Exhumer le futur à La Kunsthalle Mulhouse est la deuxième rétrospective de Maarten Vanden Eynde tirée d’un livre éponyme* qui contextualise son travail et retrace 20 années d’une recherche persévérante, toujours active.
Par une fine observation de l’essor industriel et de la mondialisation croissante, Maarten Vanden Eynde confronte l’idée de progrès à l’épuisement des ressources terrestres. Que léguons-nous au futur ?
À Mulhouse, une sélection de ses œuvres répertoriées s’organise autour de la question industrielle, celle des processus de production, de la transformation des matières premières et des produits.

Maarten Vanden Eynde est un artiste visuel basé à Bruxelles, en Belgique, et à Saint-Mihiel, en France. Il est diplômé en 2000 de la Gerrit Rietveld Academie à Amsterdam aux Pays-Bas, et il a également étudié aux États-Unis en 2006, à l’école expérimentale MSA^ Mountain School of Arts à Los Angeles. En 2009, il achève des études de cycle supérieur auprès du Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten (Institut supérieur des beaux-arts) à Gand en Belgique, où il est actuellement un tuteur invité régulier. Depuis 2020, il est doctorant à l’Université de Bergen en Norvège, se concentrant sur l’histoire et l’évolution des dispositifs de mémoire externe. En 2017, il est nominé pour le premier Belgian Art Prize et remporte le prix du public.
En 2005, avec Marjolijn Dijkman, il a fondé Enough Room for Space, une initiative artistique interdépendante qui initie et coordonne des événements, des résidences, des projets de recherche et des expositions dans le monde entier. After the exhibition at the Mu.ZEE in Ostend in 2021, Exhumer le futur (Digging up the Future) at La Kunsthalle Mulhouse is the second exhibition of Maarten Vanden Eynde‘s work, based on the book of the same name that contextualizes his work and retraces 20 years of persevering research, still active.
Through a close observation of the industrial boom and increasing globalization, Maarten Vanden Eynde confronts the idea of progress with the depletion of the earth’s resources. What are we leaving to the future?
In Mulhouse, a selection of his listed works is organized around the industrial question, that of production processes, the transformation of raw materials and products.

Maarten Vanden Eynde is a visual artist based in Brussels, Belgium and Saint-Mihiel, France. He graduated in 2000 from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, attended the experimental MSA^ Mountain School of Arts in Los Angeles, USA in 2006 and finished a postgraduate course in 2009 at the Higher Institute for Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium where he is currently a regular guest tutor. Since 2020 he has been a PhD candidate at the University of Bergen in Norway, focusing on the history and evolution of external memory devices. In 2017 he was nominated for the first Belgian Art Prize and won the Public Prize. In 2005, together with Marjolijn Dijkman, he founded Enough Room for Space, an interdependent art initiative that develops and coordinates events, residencies, research projects and exhibitions worldwide. Nach der Ausstellung im Mu.ZEE in Ostende im Jahr 2021 ist Exhumer le futur („Die Zukunft ausgraben“) in La Kunsthalle Mulhouse die zweite Retrospektive von Maarten Vanden Eynde. Die Ausstellung geht aus dem gleichnamigen Buch hervor, das seine Arbeit kontextualisiert und 20 Jahre einer beharrlichen, immer noch aktiven Suche nachzeichnet.
Durch eine genaue Beobachtung des industriellen Aufschwungs und der zunehmenden Globalisierung konfrontiert Maarten Vanden Eynde die Idee des Fortschritts mit dem Ressourcenschwund der Erde. Was hinterlassen wir der Zukunft?
In Mühlhausen dreht sich die Auswahl seiner aufgelisteten Werke um das Thema Industrie, um Produktionsprozesse, die Umwandlung von Rohstoffen und Produkten.

Maarten Vanden Eynde ist ein bildender Künstler mit Wohnsitz in Brüssel/ Belgien und Saint-Mihiel/ Frankreich. Er machte 2000 seinen Abschluss an der Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam/Niederlande, und studierte 2006 in den USA an der experimentellen MSA^ Mountain School of Arts in Los Angeles. 2009 schloss er ein Graduiertenstudium am Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten (Hochschule für Schöne Künste) in Gent/ Belgien, ab, wo er derzeit regelmäßig als Gasttutor tätig ist. Seit 2020 ist er Doktorand an der Universität Bergen/ Norwegen und konzentriert sich auf die Geschichte und Entwicklung der externer Erinnerungsprozesse. Im Jahr 2017 wurde er für den ersten Belgian Art Prize nominiert und gewann den Publikumspreis.
Im Jahr 2005 gründete er zusammen mit Marjolijn Dijkman Enough Room for Space, eine unabhängige Kunstinitiative, die weltweit Veranstaltungen, Künstlerresidenzen, Forschungsprojekte und Ausstellungen initiiert und koordiniert.
