La Kunsthalle Mulhouse accueille Boaz, une exposition de l’artiste Romain Kronenberg et de ses personnages.
Boaz est avant tout l’histoire d’une histoire. Une histoire trouvée au hasard des boutiques de souvenirs de la petite île de Procida, au large de Naples, d’une parole oubliée sur un vieux magnétophone et opportunément trouvée. Sur une cassette abandonnée, la voix calme mais importante d’un enfant qui retrace la vie d’un jeune orphelin, aimé de tous, et dont la simple présence suscite l’apparition de signes ou de scènes de dévotion. Cette histoire est celle de Boaz et de sa famille d’adoption, son frère Malachie, leur sœur Déborah et Amos, le père des trois enfants.
Ce projet complexe que développe Romain Kronenberg est centré sur la question du sacré que l’histoire de Boaz lui permet d’explorer, notamment à travers un quatuor de personnages. Ces personnages incarnent des figures – la légende, le mystique, les sacrifiés – dont le dévoilement débute dans le roman et se poursuit dans l’exposition à travers un ensemble d’œuvres plastiques et sonores, de documents.
L’exposition amplifie le livre ; les formes côtoient et développent le récit pour mieux explorer la construction d’un mythe au dénouement inéluctable.
La fiction permet à Romain Kronenberg d’observer la force d’un mythe et son retentissement sur une communauté en quête de repères et de transcendance.

Boaz, an exhibition of the artist Romain Kronenberg and his characters.
Boaz is above all the story of a story. It is a story he stumbled upon in the souvenir shops of Procida, a small island off the coast of Naples ; the story of a voice forgotten on an old tape recorder and rediscovered by chance. On an abandoned cassette, a child’s voice, quiet yet impossible to ignore, recounts the life of a young orphan, loved by all, and whose mere presence leads to signs or scenes of devotion. This is the story of Boaz and his adopted family, his brother Malachie, their sister Deborah, and Amos, the father of the three children.
This complex project developed by Romain Kronenberg is centred on the question of the sacred, which he explores through the story of Boaz, with a quartet of characters. These characters represent figures – the legend, the mystic and the sacrificed – whose unveiling begins in the novel and continues in the exhibition through a set of sound pieces, visual artworks and documents.
The exhibition amplifies the book; the interplay of visual and narrative forms deepens the exploration of the origins of a myth with an unavoidable ending.
Fiction allows Romain Kronenberg to observe the strength of a myth and its repercussions for a community seeking direction and transcendence.

Boaz, eine Ausstellung des Künstlers Romain Kronenberg und seiner Figuren.
Boaz ist vor allem die Geschichte einer Geschichte. Eine zufällig in den Souvenirläden der kleinen Insel Procida vor der Küste von Neapel gefundene Geschichte, Worte, die auf einem ausgedienten Tonbandgerät vergessen und im richtigen Augenblick wiedergefunden wurden. Auf einer alten Kassette erzählt die ruhige, aber gewichtige Stimme eines Kindes das Leben eines Waisenjungen, der von allen geliebt wird und in dessen bloßer Präsenz die Anwesenden in Andacht versinken. Diese Geschichte ist jene von Boaz und seiner Adoptivfamilie, seinem Bruder Malachie, ihrer Schwester Deborah und Amos, dem Vater von drei Kindern.
Das komplexe Projekt, das von Romain Kronenberg entwickelt wurde, dreht sich um die Frage des Sakralen, die er im Rahmen von Boaz’ Geschichte vor allem durch vier Figuren näher erkundet. Diese Figuren verkörpern die Legende, den Mystiker, die Geopferten. Sie geben sich im Roman preis und entfalten sich in den Plastiken, Klangwerken und Dokumenten der Ausstellung.
Die Ausstellung baut das Buch aus; die Formen gesellen sich zur Geschichte und entwickeln sie weiter, um die Konstruktion eines Mythos mit einem unvermeidlichen Ende besser zu erforschen.
Die Fiktion ermöglicht es Romain Kronenberg, die Macht des Mythos und dessen Wirkung auf eine Gemeinschaft, die nach Orientierung und Transzendenz sucht, zu beobachten.
